Why the Design of the Universe Matters

I recently have been rereading the book titled By Design or by Chance? By Denyse O’Leary. This book does an excellent job of distilling out, how modern science is giving more and more data to show that the Universe is the product of design. The amount of complexity that we see is everywhere we look. Whether it’s in a rose bush or a puppy or a distant galaxy, the code like information found in DNA, or the fine-tuned expansion rate of the universe could not have occurred by random chance or some form of necessity alone.

The more that we are learning scientifically, the more unattractive modernist assumptions of a random universe become. Patrick Glynn, political scientist puts it like this, “The overthrow of the ‘random universe’ by contemporary science is the great unnoticed revolution of late-twentieth-century thought.” O’Leary further supports this view by saying “We should care about this because science-cosmology, physics, chemistry, biology, ecology, all influence culture. And culture includes art, literature architecture, politics, economics and religion.” All of these are interwoven into a composition of world-view. The modernist default view of self-organization has assumed that the universe is an endless, meaningless void, in which life is nothing more than a dismal accident. These views are based in very old science of the 19th century before the discovery of DNA, (and the staggering amount of information that it holds.)

We need to sound the trumpet of a new day, a new worldview built upon hope and purpose by understanding that God All Mighty created all that we see around us! Modern science is screaming at us to wake up and smell the coffee. We already know that design characteristics always requires a designer. The more complex the design is, the more creative the mind that has conceived it.

The scriptures say “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.” Ps. 19:1-3.

In olden days, the Alchemists were certain that they could turn lead into Gold if they could just find the right recipe. Eventually they gave up the notion because they understood that they were attempting the impossible. Isn’t it about time for the materialists who hold to a self-generating hypothesis for the universe do the same?

When I lay my head on the pillow on my bed at night, I find great comfort in knowing that God has created our universe for his own good pleasure. And that all of His great promises are true and will come to pass. This security comforts the soul and brings deep-seated peace to a world that is in desperate need of a savior.
