Thankful

retro thanksgiving

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” Heb. 12:28-29

As we are entering into the holiday season, I would like to write to you today about the subject of being thankful.

Being thankful and grateful for all that God has done for us is the hallmark of what it means to be a Christian. We are endowed with such a great inheritance and are given so much freedom that we can tend to take things for granted.

The more we understand how intense God’s love for us through the grace that He offers us, the more thankful we become. I believe that this is what Thanksgiving is all about.

For those who don’t believe, there is a bit of mystery concerning what thanksgiving is for. Yes we understand the history of the pilgrim’s survival, but that seems so far removed from present day reality. Ok we eat a big turkey meal with family and friends. That is fine, but is it really worth the hype of a holiday?

Without a spiritual dimension, thanksgiving seems to come and go quickly without much meaning.

I hope that this thanksgiving that we are salt and light to those around us. May we be a shinning example of being thankful to God for all of the many blessings we have.

The scripture says to worship God with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. What a powerful descriptor!

Happy Thanksgiving.
